On the final day of the #ClimateICJAO hearings, PISFCC Director, Vishal Prasad presented the People’s Petition to the world’s top court. The Petition, an outcomes document that emerged from the People’s Assembly, a 3-day event held during the first week of the oral hearings, was assembled based on the lived, firsthand experiences of 18 witnesses from communities from every continent. Despite having little to no responsibility in causing climate change, they find themselves on the frontlines of its devastating impacts. It is a call to act boldly, decisively, and urgently – for today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. On behalf of the witnesses, we urge the ICJ to listen to their voices and deliver on the people’s existential need for climate justice. #ClimateJusticeAtTheICJ
“We’re excited to share that Vishal Prasad, our Campaign Director, is a recipient of the esteemed Global Citizen Prize this year.
He received this prize from the Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Honourable Philip Brave Davis, in New York City on 2nd May, 2024. Prime Minister Davis remarked, “Vishal amplifies the voices of the most vulnerable, including those from the Bahamas, in global dialogues on climate change and human rights. His dedication is truly admirable.””
I was pleased to award Vishal Prasad the Global Citizen Prize for Climate yesterday. Vishal carries the voices of the smallest among us, like those in the Bahamas, into global discussions on climate change and human rights.

Every year, legal experts and organisations are honoured with the Global Climate Leadership Award for their significant contributions to the advancement of international climate legislation and development. This award encourages cooperation between organisations, governments, and people who are committed to addressing the issues caused by climate change, as well as to inspire continuous commitment to climate action.”
“Advisory opinions of the Court — the principal judicial organ of the United Nations — have tremendous importance”
ANTÓNIO GUTERRES
“The General Assembly today adopted by consensus a resolution requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on the obligations of States in respect of climate change, with most speakers hailing the move as a milestone in their decades-long struggle for climate justice. The Assembly also adopted a resolution on the role of diamonds in fuelling conflict.
On the former text titled, “Request for an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the obligations of States in respect of climate change”, the Assembly decided to request the Court to render an opinion on the obligations of States under international law to ensure the protection of the climate system from anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases.”
